IFEEO began the Archives Project to preserve the
rich history of the educational equity movement.
The project
is composed of several programs which will be phased in over the next several years:
The printing and distribution of a book, "A
Quality Education for Every Child: Stories from the Lawyers on the Front Line." This
book consists of articles by 15 of the most prominent school finance/educational equity attorneys containing their reflections
on the litigation in which they were involved. In 2007, these attorneys received minigrants to hire
a law student to assist them in writing an article and compiling their papers related to the school finance litigation in
which they were involved. This book is scheduled for publication in September 2009.
Profits
from the sale of this book will go towards funding the Fellowship/Summer Associate awards.
The establishment of a center that will
serve as a research repository for the papers of attorneys and organizations involved in school finance/educational equity
litigation. In 2007, IFEEO prepared an Archives Manual and distributed it to the attorneys who were drafting
the articles for "A Quality Education for Every Child: Stories from the Lawyers on the Front Line" to
assist them in properly archiving and preserving their case materials.
