IFEEO Books Score Big in National Best Books 2009
Awards Both books published by the Institute for Educational Equity
and Opportunity (IFEEO) were named finalists in the National Best Books Awards, sponsored by USA Book News (see their
national press release at www.usabooknews.com), for outstanding works by all publishers and authors. A Quality
Education for Every Child: Stories from the Lawyers on the Front Line, just released in October 2009, was a finalist
in the category Education: Academic, and IFEEO's September 2008 publication, Education in the 50 States: A
Deskbook of the History of State Constitutions and Laws About Education was a finalist in the category, History:
United States. "I am so pleased that these unique works about
public school financing and educational equity law, from a contemporary and a historical perspective, have been recognized
as the outstanding works that they are," said Sheilah D. Vance, Esq., IFEEO Executive Director. "We were fortunate
to assemble a great team of authors, researchers, and editors who represent some of the most brilliant practicing attorneys
and scholars in these areas to write and edit our books. They truly deserve the honor and credit for this recognition." Both books are available at all bookstores and on-line booksellers and through all trade
and academic book wholesalers, such as Baker & Taylor and Ingram. "It
was IFEEO's intent to make these books as widely available as possible so that practicing attorneys, students, scholars and
the general public could access them. We hope that these publications help to continue to influence educational law
and policy for a long time to come," said Vance.

Praise for Education in the 50 States "Thanks to IFEEO for researching and publishing "Education in the 50
States." At Education Justice, we rely on this, IFEEO's first book, as a valuable resource in our
advocacy for better educational opportunities across the country. "Education in the 50 States" is an excellent
account of the exceptionally high regard for broad, public education on the part of the nation's founders, and throughout
the subsequent history and development of each state and the United States. We cited your book in our amicus brief to
the Oregon Supreme Court earlier this year, and we are doing the same in our amicus for the Missouri Supreme Court that will
be filed next week. "Education in the 50 States" has already proven extremely helpful in connecting
the educational philosophy and language of the Eighteenth Century to current state constitutional language in the Twenty-first
Century. The emphasis on the need to educate all citizens well ("the diffusion of knowledge among the people) in
order to preserve their rights and liberties and a republican form of government sets a high standard for all state education
systems to this day. Thanks again for documenting in this book the crucial underpinnings that education provides
for sustaining our democracy." Molly
